Hackert Lake Association
Annual Summer Potluck Picnic
August 12, 2001
The Hackert Lake Association in Scottville held their annual Summer Potluck Picnic last Sunday, August 12, 2001 at the Riverside Park pavilion. Approximately 25-30 people attended the event. Sam James won the door prize – a beautiful flowering houseplant.
A raffle was held with proceeds going to the Association’s coffers. Prizes included a lovely afghan, crocheted and donated by Sandy Steckel and won by Nedra Haupt, HLA’s “first lady”. Her husband Bob is the HLA President. It was Sam James’ lucky day. He also won one of the raffle prizes, a rack for holding fireplace wood and a canvas log carrier. Dan Bradshaw won a birdhouse.
Sarah James supervised the children’s games and most of the children won prizes. Sounds of the Scottville Choo-Choo coming around the bend brought the highlight of the event. As the Association shared the Choo-Choo with campers, adults and children piled into the charming little cars for a sightseeing trip all around and through the park.
Engineer Dave Petersen, who just happens to also be the Riverside Park Campground Ranger, said that the Choo-Choo is stored at the campground. A storage barn for it is near completion now. The barn, like the cars, will be decorated with advertising for various local businesses. The Association is considering combining the family picnic with the annual membership meeting next year. According to the By-Laws, that meeting, which includes election of officers, is held in July. Members will be notified of this change as plans become finalized.
