still outstanding.
Treasurer’s report was
accepted as read.
Ballots for the election
of officers were distributed by Gail Kowalski.
Pres. Bob Haupt thanked
Shirley Salas for the excellent job done on the newsletter.
He also welcomed Linda
Ochs as new secretary.
Topics of discussion:
New ramp being installed by the DNR
at the public access site. Parking
spaces will now be monitored and it is possible that the parking lot size will
be decreased.
Discussed dialing 911 in an emergency and to report any illegal
behavior of lake users. Bob mentioned
possibility of forming a neighborhood watch and encouraged members to offer
suggestions.
In May, 20,000 fat head minnows were
bought and planted in our lake. We have
also been raising additional minnows in another pond. Approximately 1,000 additional
minnows have been taken from that pond.
It has been concluded the fathead minnow project is successful.
Last week a water study of our lake
was done by WSCC. Study showed very low nitrogen and phosphorus. This is good and hopefully will remain as
is. One person can change these numbers
dramatically by fertilizing and causing runoff into the lake.
Survey cards which were included in
newsletter are being returned. These
cards asked for “YES” or “NO” re: treatment to control Eurasian Milfoil in Hackert
Lake. Current results are 48 YES and 7 NO.
Special Assessment vs. Lake Board also discussed and how vital it is for
positive feedback and support before this project is pursued.
Additional discussion re: weevil and
milfoil. Bob talked about EnviroScience
(company which furnishes weevil), success of weevils on Manistee Lake (East
side of state), and catastrophic mistake made on Houghton Lake with the weevil
and chemicals.
The results of the ballots
were delivered. 21 ballots were
submitted. Each ballot indicated “Yes” votes for the following offices. Bob Haupt for President, Tony Swider for
Vice President, and Sandi Steckel for Treasurer. There were no “NO” votes and no “write-ins”.
Tony Swider made a motion
to adjourn the meeting.
Harold Kling seconded.
Respectfully submitted,
Linda Ochs
Secretary
