Hackert Lake Reflections

Association President Bob Haupt wrote this message in December 2001 - it is a timeless statement of his commitment to the welfare of Hackert Lake.

President Bob doing what he enjoys most on the lake! Don't complain to him about "poor" fishing!

Would you believe?... he hauls 'em in like this all the time!

To All Hackert Lake Area Residents
From Your Lake Association President, Bob Haupt

This is the most important article I have written. On the subject of aquatic plants and Eurasian Milfoil, forty two households responded to the survey. 100% said Eurasian Milfoil is the number one problem on our lake!

The Board of Directors looked into the solution to this problem... the longer you ignore it the bigger the problem will be.

  • Before the directors can continue we have to have 2/3 support from the riparian owners. This is the first step! We need a response from every homeowner for Eurasian Milfoil control or against Eurasian Milfoil control.

  • All homeowners who do not send back their answer to this survey will be personally contacted by a director.

  • Cost to be paid by taxation to Amber Township either through a lake board (favored by Amber Township) or by a special assessment tax. The total cost would be between $8,000 and $12,000 for one year of treatment. This would amount to about $100 per household.

  • This is the most important decision you have to make as a homeowner for the health of Hackert Lake.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------

From the Mason County Walleye Association special meeting. Some Walleye Association members who live on Hackert Lake asked if the stocking of walleye would likely continue. The answer was no, although Tom Rozich, DNR Fish Biologist, said he would not discontinue stocking the lake until he was able to do a study. Hackert Lake got a plant of 10,166 walleyes in 2001 and has received a total of 34,433 since the Association started.

This is the information he needs for his study:

1. Scale sample
2. Dorsal fin sample
3. length
4. weight
5. girth

If you catch walleyes, please get this information to me. My phone number is 757-9687
